Upper School Admissions and Fees
We encourage all families who are considering an Albyn Education for their child to attend one of our Open Events or visit us for a tour before submitting their application.
The main application period is between September and December for entry the following academic year; however, we are happy to accept applications throughout the year and will offer places subject to availability.
Once you have decided to apply, the process is simple:
Step One: Login to our Parent Registration Portal here and complete an application form.
Step Two: The Admissions Team will be in touch to confirm receipt and make arrangements for assessment
Step Three: Your child will visit for assessment (this can be done remotely if necessary) and will be invited to spend a day in class
Step Four: The Admissions Teams will share the assessment outcome and offer of a place
Step Five: Login to our Parent Registration Portal and complete the Acceptance Form
Step Six: We welcome your child to Albyn School
Entrance assessments for Upper School are adapted to the appropriate year group. Testing for each year group is as follows:
S1 (3hrs): Candidates applying between August and December for the following academic year will be invited to an assessment day one Saturday in January. Candidates applying between January and August for entrance the following academic year or for an earlier start will be invited for assessment on receipt of their application.
Candidates are tested in Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning skills. Refreshment and rest breaks are included during this time.
S1 (2hrs): Candidates applying between August and December for an immediate start are tested in Maths and English.
S2 (2 hrs): Candidates are tested in Maths and English. These written tests last for 2 hours.
S3 (2.5hrs): Candidates applying for entrance the following academic year are tested Maths and English. Once the academic year has started, candidates applying for immediate entrance are tested in Maths, English and a Science of their choice.
S4 (variable): Candidates sit written tests in English, Maths and a Science of their choice. There may be additional tests required depending on which exam board the pupil has been following.
S5 and S6: The predicted grades of candidates will dictate the testing process for senior year.
If a candidate has previously studied National 5s or (i)GCSEs, their predicted grades will be used as a preliminary basis for entrance. If a candidate has previously followed a different education system, they will be tested in some of the subjects that they wish to study.
All candidates will have an informal interview with the Headmaster or one of his Deputies and, where possible, meet all Heads of Departments.
