Pastoral Care

Your child’s health and well-being is the most important part of their everyday life at Albyn School. We want your child to learn in a happy, safe environment where they are supported every step of the way.

Each pupil is assigned to a Clan when they join Albyn School. These Clans are Douglas, Forbes, Gordon and Stuart. We believe that our strong Clan system helps foster relationships between pupils and staff and creates a sense of belonging and community spirit throughout the whole school. Regular Clan events allow for interaction between pupils of all ages which can act as a support system, giving pupils the option to speak to an older pupil within their Clan about any concerns they may have.

We understand that some pupils may face challenging times during their school journey and Albyn School’s pastoral care policies seek to make it as easy as possible for pupils to voice any troubles they have, big or small, to our staff who will work tirelessly to resolve them. From your child’s first day in Lower School you will witness our pastoral care in action. The class teacher will be the first point of contact for any pastoral issues as they will see your child every day and will offer support, encouragement and care to help all pupils achieve their very best.

At the end of a school day, P1 to P5 class teachers will escort their pupils to meet up with you and create an ongoing dialogue about the progress of your children. Pupils’ academic and social progress is reported on regularly with one written progress check, one longer written report and two meetings each year. Parents are also able to write, email or phone the School to speak to staff about any concerns they may have and they are always welcome to meet with either the Head or the Deputy Heads of Lower School who both play an active role within the Lower School community, ensuring they get to know all the pupils while they are in our care.

Our Lower School has a rigorous behaviour management and anti-bullying strategy, which is effective in minimising disruptive behaviour. The Head or Deputy Heads will deal with any serious misconduct and Parents will always be contacted about any significant disciplinary action that has had to be taken.
