On Thursday 1 September, S5 pupils, Rhys and Finn, S4 pupil Alex S4 and recent S6 leaver, Charlotte, travelled to Loughborough to represent Scotland in the 2022 UK School Games in the U17 & U19 Modern Pentathlon disciplines.
It was an action packed weekend of competition and sports education on the campus of Loughborough University.
The competition opened on Friday with a Triathlon where the athletes embarked on a 200m swim followed by a 3km Laser Run. With swimming not being our athletes main strength, they started well down the pack as they entered the 2nd stage of the Triathlon with the Laser run. All athletes performed extremely well with Rhys coming from 11th place with a 81 second deficit to finish 2nd just 2 seconds behind winner. Charlotte’s team of Susie and Rachel were placed in the 2nd team. On Saturday, the athletes participated in a mass start 3km Laser run. Finn competed in the U17 age category and his team of Jacob and Jack placed 3rd overall. Charlotte’s U19 Team with Susie and Grace finished 1st overall. Rhys competing again in the higher U19 age group, finished a strong 1st, 24 seconds ahead of 2nd place athlete, Duncan who was also part of the Scottish team. Rhys, Duncan and Jordan successfully took the U19 team title.
The finale of the weekend was the mixed team relay where the 1st ranked male was teamed up 5th ranked female and vice versa. Unfortunately, no medals were won by Albyn pupils here although the Scottish team were dominant across both relays winning 5/6 medals.
Well done everyone!
