World Friendship Day on 30th July is a great opportunity to celebrate our besties! It’s the perfect time to reflect on the bonds and lifelong friendships that have started here at Albyn School. Friendships are not only sparked here, but flourish well into adulthood as the following stories demonstrate.
A huge thank you to all our former pupils who shared their memories with us! Find these stories, and much more, on Facebook and Instagram .
- Isobel Law (nee Donald) and Joyce Stewart (nee Whitehead) first crossed paths at Albyn in 1945 and still meet up every week. It’s become a cherished tradition as they remember old friends and reflect on a remarkable 79 years of friendship.
- June Still, Norma Henderson, Alison Eden and Eileen Haw met at Albyn nursery and have been friends for an incredible 72 years!
- Karen McKimmie met her best friends (Claire Riddoch nee MacDonald, Pamela Ewan nee Morrice, and Jackie Smith) at Albyn in 1977. Despite adult life taking them to different parts of the UK and beyond they never lost touch and spend more time together now than ever before!
- Jill Govan (nee Williamson) and Betty Gordon’s bond blossomed at Albyn (photo from 1952) and continued to thrive even miles apart after Jill moved to Australia. Sadly Betty is no longer with us however Jill has fond memories of her good friend and their time at Albyn together.
- Meet Sandra Wisely and Patricia Davidson (nee Murdoch)… “I met my two best friends at Albyn in P7 and S1 respectively. We’re still close friends today. I was bridesmaid to one and godmother to her daughter. We meet regularly and phone at least once a week,” Sandra shared.
- Christine Gibson met her besties after joining Albyn Nursery in 1963. Although there have been large gaps of time where they haven’t seen one another, they have always kept in touch and now meet up several times a year for Sunday lunch.
