Former pupil, Samuel Payne (Class of 2018) was selected by ReQuest2021 along with nine other Scouts to commemorate the Shackleton-Rowett Expedition of 1921-1922 to Antarctica by embarking on an exciting month-long adventure to the frozen south 100 years later.
Sam flew out to Argentina on Boxing Day and climbed aboard sailing ship, Bark Europa on the 31 December. Sam and the other Scouts are taking part in different research projects on issues such as climate change and the environment
We wish Sam the best of luck on this amazing journey and can’t wait to hear all about it on his return!
In the meantime Sam’s journey can be followed via a daily blog on https://www.request2021.org.uk/ and the ship’s route can be tracked via www.barkeuropa.com
Sam was also featured on BBC’s Countryfile – The Cairngorms. Watch from 51:07 – 56:15 to hear more about Sam’s trip!
