Albyn School’s recently appointed Head Boy, William and Head Girl, Taya reflect on their experiences of studying towards their exams during the pandemic.

Taya B

Taya achieved 5 A’s in Higher French, Higher Spanish, Higher English, Higher RMPS and an A in AS Level History. Talking about being in Lockdown and online Learning, Taya commented:

“I very much tried to embrace the online learning, it was difficult and very different from the normal year we were used to but all I could do was try my best.

I am really happy about my exam results and feel like I worked incredibly hard for them. Covid really did have an impact on the way we were taught but I felt like my hard work really paid off. I am really excited to continue my learning and this next term I am studying A Level History, Advanced Higher French and Higher Music with the aim to hopefully study History with French at University.

With the honour of being Head Girl this next year, I am looking forward to working with both pupils and teachers to help the school progress for another year after Covid.”

William L

William achieved 5 straight A’s in Higher Biology, Higher Maths, Higher Chemistry, Higher Geography and Higher PE. Speaking on this past year, William said:

“This past year has been challenging in many different ways but it has given me and the other pupils the opportunity to rise to the challenge and perform well in spite of this by working hard and receiving the support available from the teachers. I am very happy about my exam results and to see that my hard work and determination has paid off.

I am honoured to have been chosen as Head Boy this year. I am very much looking forward to getting to know the younger year groups in more of a leadership capacity so that I can develop my own leadership skills further and have an impact on my younger peers this next year.”

The Headmaster, Stefan Horsman, noted: “We are delighted to have Taya and William as our Head Girl and Head Boy team for the coming year. I am sure they will lead the pupil body with distinction and act as the bridge between staff and the pupil body to take forward a number of key issues such as the mental health and wellbeing of pupils”
