S1 pupil Emma-Grace to originate role in new Aberdeen Arts Centre musical

We are very proud of our S1 pupil Emma-Grace who will originate the role of Stef in Aberdeen Arts Centre’s brand new musical called The New Kid.

Described as “Groundhog Day meets Matilda”, the original musical – which will premiere tomorrow (22 June) – follows Hana who is stuck repeating the first day of school and is forever the new kid.

Emma-Grace, who joined the Arts Centre’s youth theatre group Castlegate Theatre Company at the start of the 2021/2022 school year, said it was “very exciting” to be the first one to play the character of Stef on stage.

She said: “I am really looking forward to the opening night. I like the feeling I get when I am on stage. It is very exciting.

“My character Stef is part of the mean girls group. It is quite cool to play someone like her.”

Emma-Grace, who previously starred in the local theatre group’s take on the musical Matilda and the parody “Aberdeen Arts Centre’s Got the X Idol Get Me Out of Here Strictly not on Ice Big Bake Off Throw Down”, cannot wait to be part of the The New Kid’s big song and dance numbers.

She said: “The first song is called First Day which is a nice opening song and my favourite song is The Time Is Now which is happy and bouncy.”
