What a week of fantastic sport at Albyn School??

Here is a report from Head of PE and Sport, Mr Lamont:

Tuesday 31 January was a golden day of sport for Albyn School. We had some notable sporting successes in Football, Netball and Athletics.

Our senior footballers produced an emphatic 6-1 victory over Dollar Academy. Our 1st XI captain Euan B led from the front and scored a terrific hat-trick and not to be outdone, Adam M also produced his own moments of genius to also score a hat-trick. This victory sees them team progress in to the knock out stages of the Scottish Independent Schools Cup.

Our S1 netballers were in action in the Aberdeen Schools S1 tournament which was held at the Beach Leisure Centre. 11 teams were taking part from schools all across the city. The Albyn S1 team played some amazing netball and progressed out of their pool undefeated. They faced a difficult semi-final against Bucksburn Academy which they won 6-0 and they then progressed on to the final to face Robert Gordons College. The final was a very tense affair with both teams playing some very good netball but the Albyn team just pulled ahead to win the match 3-1 and be crowned champions.

The Albyn athletics team were down in Glasgow competing in the Scottish Schools Indoor Athletics Championships. The team performed brilliantly winning three golds and one bronze medal. Gold medals went to Rhys C in the U17 Boys 800m with a personal best winning time of 1.58.06, Rosie M in the U17 Girls Pole Vault and Finn Bryce in the U17 Boys Pole Vault. Finn also came away with a Bronze medal in the U17 Boys 60m Hurdles.

The winning streak continued on into Wednesday, our 1st XI netballers were back in Scottish Cup action against Webster’s High School from Kirriemuir. After a two week break due to the prelim exams the girls were dying to get back on court, they put in a very dominant display throughout the match winning it 26-12. This result sees the team progress through to the last 16 in the plate competition where a trip to Orkney to play Stromness Academy awaits.

These results are down to the hard work and dedication shown by the pupils, these winning results are only the beginning. A huge well done everyone!! ?
