Toddlers (age 2-3 years)
In Toddlers we understand how important it is for your child to settle in both quickly and happily when they join. Our staff adapt to each child’s specific needs, providing the level of attention required during their transition into Nursery. Children will be allocated a dedicated keyworker who spends time with each child in their group at different times of the day, supported by other members of the Toddlers team. Our Toddlers are located in the ground floor Rainbow and Sunshine rooms and their day is planned and scheduled to enable them to enjoy indoor and outdoor spaces as well as spaces off site to provide access to additional learning opportunities and experiences.
Children remain in Toddlers until they are three years old and will move to Preschool in the school term after their third birthday.
ACTIVITIES
Throughout their time in Toddlers, your child will enjoy a wide variety of activities designed to stimulate their imagination and develop key skills. These include doing puzzles, arts and crafts, baking, imaginative play, story time and lots of physical activities such as yoga and walks in the park. Once a week the children receive a music lesson from a specialist music teacher and at the end of each term will perform in a musical concert for parents and staff. The children also visit the Lower School library every week and can borrow books to take home. There is a daily Sleep Time after lunch for those children who need some rest.
OUTDOOR PLAY
It is our belief that outdoor play is essential for every child’s development and is an excellent way for children to get exercise. In our Nursery your child will have that chance to play outside every day in the Rainbow Garden or during walks nearby and trips to the park. All trips outside school grounds are under close supervision and are only planned with parental consent.
MEALS AND SNACKS
Our in-house catering team make meals and snacks for our children and can cater for a range of dietary requirements. The food they prepare is both healthy and varied; typical morning and afternoon snacks include fruit, toast, cereal or pancakes and lunch could be homemade spaghetti Bolognese or breaded fish served with seasonal vegetables followed by yoghurt for dessert. Menus are provided to parents at the beginning of each term.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
At pick up time you will be updated on what your child has been doing that day, what they have eaten and how they are progressing. Parents also receive a weekly newsletter packed with photographs and relevant information.
TRANSITION TO PRESCHOOL
Your child will transition to Preschool in the term after their third birthday. They will be carefully prepared for this new social environment through pre-start visits and parents will also be invited to visit the Preschool area, meet the staff and ask any questions they may have.
