At Albyn School we work closely with our pupils from S1 – S6 to prepare them for the next stage in their education and their future beyond Albyn. We recognise that all stages benefit from guidance in different forms and support each pupil to achieve the best outcome for them.

The Head of Careers and Senior Teacher with oversight of subject choices and timetabling share an office and operate an open door policy. Pupils are welcome to come with any questions or discuss any concerns they might have; no question is a silly question and the team are always happy to help.

In S1 and S2, our pupils have the opportunity explore and discuss different skills and careers as they work towards making their subject choices for National 5 examinations.

Pupils from S3-S6 receive details of many opportunities available for university and college engagement, career insight events, work experience and more. Pupils are encouraged to take ownership of their own future and those that make the most of the opportunities advertised are undoubtedly in a better position moving forward. This runs alongside class input via the Civics programme, with further exploration of skills for work, career exploration and more.

We run events to introduce pupils to people who are actually doing the jobs they might be interested in.  Our very successful Careers and Higher/Further Education Fair in June 2023 for pupils in S3-S6 provided the chance to hear from 40 different speakers and visit over 20 exhibitors. For future events, we will continue to offer new experiences to our pupils and are considering more sector-focused events, possibly working in collaboration with other schools in the area to provide an even wider offering.

More detailed information about the Careers input into the PSE/Civics programme by year group is available here.
