Pupils Compete at UPIM Global City Tour and Schools Laser Run Finals in Liverpool

Ten of our pupils from P7 to S4 travelled to Liverpool recently to compete in the final of the UPIM Global City Tour and the Schools Laser Run competition. For many of the pupils, this was their first ever competition, and they faced a strong field of athletes from across the UK.

The weekend began on Sunday with the Global City Tour final. Jessica D (S1) had an outstanding performance, winning the Under 13 competition. Millie GP (S2) also produced an excellent performance to win the Under 15 competition, finishing with an exciting sprint finish in which she pipped the first U15 boy across the line.

There was further success in the Under 15 relay, with James S (S3) and Millie GP combining to win the competition. Their performance was a fantastic and exciting way to round off the first day of racing.

The pupils also had the opportunity to enjoy some of what Liverpool had to offer during the weekend. Shopping and exploring the city added to the experience, while the group were also fortunate enough to see some of the new Beatles film being filmed in the streets of Liverpool!

On Monday, the pupils returned for the Schools Laser Run competition, and their confidence continued to grow throughout the day. There were a number of excellent individual and team performances across all the age groups. The team competed in English School year groups.

In the Year 7 competition, Kaedee D (P7) took first place, while Jessica D continued her successful weekend by winning the Year 8 competition.

The Year 9 competition saw another impressive performance from Millie GP, who took first place. Molly GP (S2) finished in third and Eilidh D (S2) in fourth. Their combined results meant that they also secured the Year 9 team prize.

There was further success in the Year 10 competitions. James S finished third in the boys' competition, with Tyler F (S4) taking fourth, both performing strongly against a very competitive GB field. In the Year 10 girls' competition, Grace R (S4) took first place and Charlotte F (S4) finished second.

To finish off an excellent weekend, Eilidh E (S4) competed in the Year 11 competition and secured a gutsy second place.

The weekend was a tremendous experience for all ten pupils. As well as achieving some outstanding results, they gained valuable experience of competing at a high level, learned from racing against some of the strongest athletes in the UK and developed confidence throughout the two days.

The pupils represented Albyn exceptionally well, showing commitment, determination and support for one another. With so many successes across the weekend, combined with the opportunity to experience and explore Liverpool, it was a memorable trip for everyone involved.
