Beyond Albyn

Introduction

Where does your future lie?

We work closely with our pupils from S1 - S6 to prepare them not only for examinations but for life beyond the classroom.  We recognise that all stages benefit from guidance in different forms and we take pride in offering personalised support that helps each pupil discover their unique path.

Our goal is to develop not just academic ability, but the independence, resilience, and confidence our pupils need to thrive in the world beyond school. Through leadership opportunities, co-curricular activities, and a strong focus on wellbeing, our leavers are well-equipped to face the challenges of adult life.

Even after pupils leave, they remain part of our community. Former pupils often return to share their experiences, offer advice to current pupils, or simply stay in touch through the many events we hold. We value this lasting connection and the inspiration it provides to future generations.

Careers and Guidance

Thanks to our strong pastoral support and small class sizes, staff get to know pupils exceptionally well. This allows us to offer meaningful one-to-one careers advice, UCAS support, interview preparation, and mentoring throughout their senior years.

Pupils work on self awareness, explore ‘what is work?’ and spend time finding out about different careers.

During this year, pupils will decide their exam subjects for National 5.  They explore different subject choices, recognise their skills and share career ideas.  They will also complete the Morrisby Aspirations profile and have an individual interview with Head of Careers to review subject choices.

More time is spent revisiting Morrisby, challenging workplace stereotypes and on decision making.   Pupils are introduced to CV building, careers for the future and have more access to the Careers team.

During this exam year, pupils complete Morrisby Aptitudes Profiling and have an individual follow-up interview with external adviser and are encouraged to recognise their skills, strengths and interests.  Another individual meeting with the Head of Careers assist with S5 subject choices and linking these to future plans.   Pupils are also introduced to the UCAS hub.

At the beginning of this important exam year, pupils learn how they can make the most of S5, both academically and wider, looking at subject interests and career ideas beyond the classroom.  They revisit and review Morrisby and UCAS hub profiles, explore work experience options and begin to prepare for life after school in PSE classes.

Individual advice and guidance are provided as needed along with assistance for UCAS or any other applications.  PSE courses continue and the open door policy of the Head of Careers is particularly useful for these final year pupils.  All pupils can also access re-applications and post-school application if their plans change after leaving Albyn.

Business and Mentoring Hub

We have developed our Hub to support our young leavers and former pupils as they navigate the start of their careers.

As a former pupil, the Hub aims to inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators by creating a space where you can develop practical business acumen and receive mentorship from experienced professionals. Through online sessions, placements and group workshops, mentors share their insights, experiences and guidance to help you build professional networks and grow the confidence you need to excel in a professional environment.

As a mentor or organisation, your experience, knowledge and network could provide an invaluable opportunity for the next generation.
