Introduction
Wellbeing at the heart of the school
Wellbeing is woven into the fabric of school life. Our dedicated staff work closely with pupils to ensure they feel safe, valued and understood. From everyday interactions to carefully designed PSE (Personal and Social education) lessons, we foster a culture of kindness, respect, and resilience. We acknowledge that there may be times when life can become a little challenging or overwhelming; whether a pupil is navigating academic pressures, friendship challenges, or personal concerns, our staff are here to listen, support, and guide. We believe in maintaining open lines of communication with home and by working together, we promote a shared commitment to each pupil’s wellbeing.
“The Albyn community has been incredibly nurturing and supportive – not just academically, but emotionally too. It’s a place that genuinely cares, and we’ve always felt that kindness.

We have a well established house system with each pupil assigned to a 'Clan' when they join the school, encouraging them to build relationships with their Head of Clan, peers and pupils in other year groups. Where there are siblings, relatives or children of Former Pupils, we endeavour to keep all in the family ‘Clan’, building a sense of belonging and community spirit throughout the whole school. We host regular Clan events encouraging healthy competition and our house rewards system allows pupils to earn ‘tokens’ for the Clan.

Meet the team
Every pupil at Albyn has a strong support system around them should times get tough. Deputy Heads, Heads of Clan and Form Teachers all dedicate their time, energy and expertise to listening and nurturing our pupils. They appreciate that our pupils have their own needs on a number of different levels and will always do what they can to make sure these needs are met. We also strongly encourage our pupils to support and care for one another’s wellbeing and to let staff know if they have concerns for a fellow pupil.
We have a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Centre on site with a School Nurse always on duty and visiting Counsellor available for pupils. In addition to managing individual medical plans and providing medical assistance, our friendly School Nurses play an active role in the life of the school, helping our pupils to understand the benefits of a healthy lifestyle from an early age. Our welcoming team also provide a listening ear for those pupils who choose to drop in.
Our approach to behaviour management is grounded in respect, responsibility, and restorative practice. We encourage pupils to take ownership of their actions and to understand how their behaviour affects others. Expectations are clear, consistent, and communicated through positive reinforcement, open dialogue, and mutual trust. When things go wrong, as they sometimes do, we work with pupils to restore relationships, reflect on decisions, and move forward with honesty and accountability. This approach helps foster a strong sense of community and teaches vital conflict-resolution skills. We have a zero tolerance policy on bullying.
