Additional Support for Learning

Introduction

Helping every child succeed

Recognising that each child is unique, we offer tailored support to address individual learning needs. With emphasis on early intervention, research-led pedagogy and 'getting it right' for every child, our Additional Support for Learning Faculty collaborates with teachers, pupils and parents to create personalised strategies that enhance the educational experience.

Celebrating Neurodiversity Week

Our Aims

The faculty aims to provide effective and appropriate support from Nursery to S6. This may be short-term or long-term, and may involve individual or small group sessions or in-class co-operative teaching.

Our Role

The team co-ordinates all efforts made by the school to assist pupils with their learning needs, including disseminating information, giving guidance on appropriate teaching strategies, liaising with teachers, the adaptation and provision of teaching resources, giving direct support where necessary and generally acting as an advocate for pupils. The team also co-ordinates the provision of assessment arrangements for external examinations.

Our classes

The faculty has three dedicated classrooms which the team can use for personalised intervention work, whether in small groups or on a one-to-one basis. Support also takes place within classes as appropriate.

English as an Additional Language

EAL Support

Our EAL provision is designed to ensure that every student who speaks English as an additional language is fully supported in developing the confidence and language skills they need to thrive both academically and socially. We value linguistic diversity as a strength and encourage all pupils to maintain pride in their home languages and cultures.

FAQs

We use ongoing assessments, teacher observations and feedback from parents to identify children who may benefit from extra support. If needed, we work with external specialists to provide the right interventions.

We provide a range of support including one-to-one support, differentiated teaching and personalised learning plans. Our teachers and support staff work closely with pupils to ensure they receive the help they need to succeed.
