The commemoration comes at a particularly meaningful time, as the independent school celebrates 100 years at its Queen’s Road campus.
Founded in 1867, Albyn School has been a cornerstone of Aberdeen’s educational landscape for over 150 years. Since relocating to Queen’s Road in 1925, the school has flourished, expanding its facilities and curriculum while nurturing generations of pupils who have gone on to make their mark locally, nationally, and internationally.
The civic reception, hosted by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen at the Town House, brought together representatives from Aberdeen City Council, the Albyn School community, and invited guests to celebrate the school’s achievements and enduring partnership with the city.
Lord Provost of Aberdeen, David Cameron, said:
“Albyn School has played a significant role in shaping the lives of countless young people in Aberdeen and beyond. Its continued commitment to excellence, innovation, and community engagement is something our city can be truly proud of. It is a privilege to recognise this milestone and the school’s enduring place in the fabric of Aberdeen.”
Head of School, David Starbuck, added:
“We are deeply honoured by this recognition from Aberdeen City Council. For a century, Queen’s Road has been at the heart of Albyn’s story — a place where generations of pupils have learned, grown, and contributed to the world around them. This commemoration not only celebrates our past but also looks forward to the exciting future that lies ahead.”
Throughout its history, Albyn School has maintained strong ties with the local community through outreach programmes, partnerships, and charitable initiatives. The centenary year has seen a series of special events and reunions already taking place, with a ceilidh and an exclusive musical production at Aberdeen’s Tivoli Theatre planned for 2026, further celebrating the school’s rich heritage and its continued dedication to providing a forward-looking education.
