After an evening of exceptional performances, Anna (S3) was named Albyn School’s Musician of the Year after a compelling performance on the violin. Anna will now go on to represent Albyn at the Independent Schools’ Heat, which will take place on Saturday 21 March at George Heriot's School in Edinburgh.
Should she progress through that round, Anna will represent Albyn at the National Final for Solo Performer of the Year, to be held at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow — a prestigious platform that showcases the very best young musical talent from across the country.
The competition was open to pupils performing at Grade 6 standard and above. Those interested in being considered were invited to audition earlier this year, performing one piece on their chosen instrument. Finalists were then required to perform two pieces of their choice at the final, in front of a judging panel and wider audience from the Albyn community. Performers were assessed on a range of musical aspects, including melodic and rhythmic accuracy, interpretation and quality of tone.
The standard of performance throughout the competition was outstanding. Aurelien (P7) on the violin and Angus (S2) on the piano, both performed and competed brilliantly, making the judges’ final decision extremely difficult. We also extend our best wishes to Jonathan (S5), who had qualified for the final but was unfortunately unable to perform due to injury.
Congratulations to all our finalists for an inspiring evening of music-making, and we wish Anna every success as she prepares to represent Albyn School in the next stage of the competition.
Our Lower School Musician of the Year and Sherriff’s Cup will be held later in the year.
