Introduction
Developing a love for learning and curiosity beyond the classroom
We want our pupils to have a healthy balance between a love for learning and curiosity beyond the classroom and that is why we have created the Albyn Curriculum Enrichment (ACE) Programme.
Unique to Albyn School, this programme is built into the school day and offers additional classes (twice weekly) that differ vastly from the day-to-day learning. There are three 10 week blocks of ACE during the year and the pupils themselves have the choice of which activities they would like to sign up for.
Crafts and musical theatre
Sport and health/fitness related activities such as golf, badminton and netball
Cooking, gardening, bikeability
Local history, RotaKids
Logical thinking, problem solving, poetry and prose, computer coding, science/technology (building on everyday learning)
“My favourite ACE activity is djembe drumming because me and my friends have fun! Drumming helps me to be more confident.
Our ACE programme is integrated into the Lower School day and allows pupils to explore a range of interests and experiences not found in the traditional school curriculum. This allows children to develop new hobbies and skills that they can use in later life.
Activities follow a head, heart and hands model, including; chess, problem solving, computer coding, cooking, gardening, bikeability, golf, badminton, netball, RotaKids, crafts and musical theatre to name a few.
The ACE programme is flexible with pupils choosing one or more activities to be involved with during each 10-week ACE block. This aspect of personalisation and choice allows pupils to select areas of interest or new experiences they wish to develop.
