Welcome to the Aberdeen French School
The only accredited French School in Scotland
Albyn School is home to the Aberdeen French School, which offers pupils a hybrid curriculum based on Mission Laïque Française (MLF) principles.
This means pupils benefit from a French and English bilingual education, preparing them to continue their education seamlessly in the UK, France or any country where these languages are spoken.
This approach provides both academic flexibility and a truly international perspective.

Our History
In 1972, the French School opened in Aberdeen in response to TotalEnergies’ request to meet employees’ needs as they relocated with their families to the north east at the start of the oil and gas industry’s growth.
The TOTAL Oil Marine School, later the TOTAL French School, was originally based at Aberdeen Grammar School.
Initially, only Total employees’ families could attend the school, but it subsequently broadened entry to any children looking to follow a curriculum that mirrored the French school system.
In 2018, the Aberdeen French School relocated to Albyn School and now offers a hybrid curriculum. Qualified MLF teachers, who trained in France, teach French, History, Geography and Mathematics together with citizenship in French, while other subjects are taught in English by Albyn School’s own teachers.
Through our Parents Eyes:
“Our son has been very happy at Albyn and the French School. He did not speak a word of English when he arrived and is now almost bilingual.
