Sports Bursary and Scholarship Programme

16 January ‘26

Upper School, Sports

Albyn School is excited to introduce its inaugural Sports Bursary and Scholarship Programme for S1 and S3 applicants.

This programme will offer passionate and talented young athletes entering Albyn School for S1 and S3 a pathway to excellence, both on and off the field, court or track. Bursaries will cover all school tuition fees while Scholarships will carry a 10% tuition fee reduction.

Through this new programme, launching in August 2026 and targeting those excelling in Athletics, Football or Netball, pupils will have the opportunity to develop their skills, embrace challenges and thrive both academically and in their selected sports.  Dedicated staff and talented pupils have already put Albyn on the map at local and national level in these sports and the school's wider sport strategy will see continued investment in these areas. For example, Albyn organises and hosts the Albyn School Invitational Schools Cross Country Championship annually in March welcoming over 1,600  independent and state school runners from as far south as St Andrews and as far north as Elgin. This will be the 26th year of this event, the biggest schools cross country event in Scotland.

At Albyn School, pupils belong to a happy, safe and vibrant community where they can be themselves and be valued for who they are. Athletes who demonstrate commitment, humility and respect, both in training and in competition are welcome to apply. Whether excelling in a single sport or enjoying success across several, applicants must be able to demonstrate a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn and the confidence to challenge themselves. An understanding of the importance of teamwork and leadership along with a desire to represent their school with pride, integrity and sportsmanship must also be underpinned by academic achievement.

“ We are thrilled to be able to offer the benefits of an Albyn education to children who may otherwise be unable to access our supportive and nurturing environment.  Pupils joining this programme will benefit from tailored sporting opportunities, expert coaching, personalised strength and conditioning sessions and the chance to represent our school with pride. This is an exciting moment for Albyn, and we cannot wait to welcome the next generation of talented athletes into our community,” enthused Jimmy Lamont, Head of Faculty for PE and Sports.

Sports Bursaries and Scholarships will be awarded based on sporting and academic ability; financial need will also be assessed for bursaries.  The deadline for applications is Friday 6 February and more details about the application process are available here
